President Bola Tinubu Honours Former NYSC Corps Member with Jobs, Scholarship and N250,000 Cash Awards

In an award ceremony held in Abuja on July 29, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu honoured 210 former NYSC corps members, who served between 2020 and 2023.

The President approved the employment of the ex-corps into the Federal Civil Service, as part of his administration’s aim to support and empower youths.

Representing the President at the NYSC Honours Award Ceremony held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, relayed the directives given by the President to the ex-corps members who served between the year 2020 and 2023.

The directive states that after being fully employed into federal civil service offices, each of the award recipients is also entitled to cash prize of N250,000 and a fully financed scholarship for them to further their postgraduate studies at any tertiary institution in Nigeria. The president ordered the immediate effects of the directive by the Federal Civil Service Commission and the Head of the Civil Service.

In addition to that, 10 physically challenged ex-corps members, who were involved in accidents during the course of serving their country, were among the beneficiaries of the President’s civic rewards. They were granted automatic employment in appreciation of their unwavering commitment and sacrifice for Nigeria.

Onyejeocha, speaking on behalf of President Tinubu said, “The government does not take their service lightly”

“Their resilience is a symbol of courage and loyalty.”

During the occasion, President Bola Tinubu took the chance to highlight broader efforts which are aimed at placing youthful Nigerians at the core of the country’s economic transformation.

While urging the honourees to remain committed to national growth, the President reassured that his administration is fully focused on skills development, tech opportunities, education and access to leadership roles through a number of youth-oriented initiatives.

The Award Ceremony also recognized exceptionally performing corps members in male and female categories. The top- performing male corps members and service locations include Rabiu Mayokun (Rivers State), Okpogbo Chinedu(Cross River State) Dr. Ugwa Mark(Cross River State), and Polycarp Nuyana (Kwara State). While the female category, the top-performing corps members include–Igwe Anne Chikaodi (Sokoto State), Akase Nguwasen (Gombe State).

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande was also in attendance and addressed the gathering, praising the President’s unrelenting support of youth empowerment in Nigeria. He further described those honoured by the President as “trailblazers”, who are potential generational driving force.

According to the Minister, he said, “This is more than a ceremony. It is a recognition of character, creativity and purpose-driven service.”

He further highlighted the recent increment of the NYSC allowance by the Federal Government from N33,000 to N77,000, stating that it was a reflection of the realities of the economy as well as demonstrating the importance of corp members to national growth.

NYSC, Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu gave his distinct honour to the honourees at the event. He termed the Nigerian youth as “the engine of national development” while he showered his praise upon the government for his continual investment in youth-oriented programs in Nigeria.

According to Nafiu’s remark “These programs go beyond policy- they’re building blocks of a stronger future”

The also praised and honoured the 10 ex-corps members who sustained injuries and yet maintained dedication and patriotism in serving their country. He described them as “Heroes of our Republic”
