Lagos Grand Trophy Parade Honors Super Falcons’ Historic WAFCON Win
A big trophy parade in Lagos welcomed back the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, on Tuesday, July 30, 2025.
The party came after they interestingly won the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they broke their own record by coming back from a 3–2 deficit to beat Morocco in Rabat and win their 10th title.
The parade went through major parts of the city, such as Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Surulere. People waved flags, danced, and sang in celebration.
The display of excitement and support shows how much the Falcons’ win meant to Nigerians. The players waved to the crowd from the tops of open-top busses while wearing their trademark green and white uniforms. They held up their hard-earned trophy for the cheering crowd to see. The parade wasn’t just a victory lap; it was a time for everyone to come together and be proud of their country.
Key state officials and sports figures who were there praised the team for their hard work and determination. Many of them said that the Falcons were great role models, especially for girls in every state. In honor of the Falcons’ success and the growing interest in women’s football across the country, they also promised to keep working on making grassroots football better, especially for women and girls.. It wasn’t easy to get to this win.
The Super Falcons pulled off one of the most amazing performances of the tournament when they came back from two goals down to beat Morocco 3–2 in the last few minutes of the WAFCON championship match.
The Lagos parade was not only a celebration of great sportsmanship, but also a show of what can happen when preparation and determination meets opportunity. The Super Falcons are more than just football players to many young Nigerians who watch from the sidelines. They are champions of hope, courage, and change.
