Former President Muhammadu Buhari set for burial at his Daura residence
Former President of Nigeria, Buhari, who died at age 82, on Sunday in London, will be buried in his home town in Daura, Kastina state.
The death of Buhari has since left a deep mark on Nigeria, prompting reactions from around the world.
The President, Bola Tinubu has announced Tuesday, July 15th, Public Holiday to honour the demise of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari while he waits for the arrival of the remains of his body which will arrive at the Kastina airport before taken to Daura for Janaza prayer (a funeral prayer in Islam) by noon.
Tightened Security as Daura Mourns
While the burial of the former president is imminent, the security level across the town of Daura heightens and tightens. Soldiers and Police forces have been deployed along major roads and areas that would welcome prominent visitors, which include, the GRA residence of Buhari as well as the Daura Emirate Palace.
From the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International airport to every hotel in Daura, the entirety of Kastina to Daura has been on heavy watch and surveillance.
The Governor of Kastina state, Dikko Radda while meeting with the Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Farouk Umar to offer his condolences in the palace where special prayers were organized, has also ensured preparations are in place to ensure the funeral is done successfully as planned.
Final Abode Chosen By Family
The Governor of Kastina state, has announced that Buhari’s family and close relatives have decided to bury the former president in a fenced portion which has been prepared within his residence in Daura, to ensure privacy and respect.
The security team has approved Buhari’s residence as the venue for the Janaza prayer and the burial, as against the Emir’s palace grounds earlier planned for the prayers to hold.
While preparing a smooth sailing funeral, a Federal Committee has been formed and provided with arrangements to ensure visiting foreign leaders are well taken care of and to honour Buhari and befitting farewell.

Buhari’s death has attracted mouners from all walks of life at his home- old friends, associates, family members, and mere citizens who adored him.
Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu said , ” We thought he was getting better. His death shocked is. “
The former spokesman for the late president went further to describe him as someone who never had any need for luxury, but dedicated to the poor ones.
Former Minister, Isa Pantami described Buhari as a father figure and a man with high level of discipline who never missed his prayers.
“He never came late. Never missed a prayer. I knew him closely for 24 years”
Former Governor of Kastina state, Aminu Masari, Buhari was a man for many people to rely on.
“Now that wall has been fallen. Yet, he remained unchanged from childhood to presidency- principled, firm and simple.”
Former Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, paid his respect and described him as a man “who stood for modesty and service ” and prayed Allah grant him Aljannah.
Final Goodbye
As every Nigerians grief upon the death of the former President, with official duties temporarily suspended and the National flags flying across the nation at half-mast until July 20, President Bola Tinubu appointed George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation of Nigeria, to lead a state funeral committee, which includes- security chiefs, ministers, and protocol officers, who have all been ordained to open condolence registers for messages from the public who desire to pay their last respect.
